Ibai Llanos shares message he sent to Lionel Messi after heated altercation with Weghorst at 2022 FIFA World Cup
Spanish streamer Ibai Llanos has revealed that he sent Lionel Messi a message after the Argentine's heated exchange with Wout Weghorst at the 2022 World Cup. The then-Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star reacted angrily to Weghorst after Argentina's quarter-final win over the Netherlands following an on-field altercation.
Speaking on Spanish show Paren la Mano, the streamer stated that he did not like to bother Messi with messages despite knowing the footballer personally. However, he did drop a text during the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
"I did message him during the Netherlands match when he reacted strongly to [Wout] Weghorst. I told him, 'Leo, don't get mad,' because he posted about needing to be serious sometimes," Llanos said.
When asked if he was in regular touch with the Inter Miami star, the streamer stated:
"I try not to bother him. I have never sent him a message, even though he follows me on Instagram. I'm afraid to message him. We were lucky to be at the dinner with him thanks to Coscu and Kun (Agüero), and at the presentation, but sometimes, it's embarrassing depending on who you're contacting."
Ibai Llanos is a famous Spanish Twitch streamer and has also become the face of Gerard Pique's Kings League. He has also streamed multiple times with Lionel Messi's former teammate Sergio Aguero.
Lionel Messi took aim at Ibai Llanos at the Ballon d'Or ceremony
Lionel Messi was not happy with Ibai Llanos after the streamer played a voice note from his son during a live session on Twitch. Mateo, the footballer's second son, had accused him of eating all the tequenos during a dinner with the Argentine's family. He had sent a voice note on WhatsApp, saying (via GOAL):
"Ibai, don't come back, stupid!"
Messi later hit back at the streamer in a light-hearted way when he was trying to interview him during the 2023 Ballon d'Or ceremony. He had said (via GOAL):
"I'm not going to answer you anymore because you make everything public and I don't like it…the Ballon d'Or? Now you are changing the topic you son of a b*tch."
Lionel Messi collected a record eighth Ballon d'Or in 2023 and later gave an interview to Ibai Llnaos.
