“If I don’t, I’m already the player with most goals in history” - Cristiano Ronaldo appears to cast doubt over 1000-goal milestone target
Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted he might never reach the milestone of 1000 goals in his career. However, he is happy to finish his career as the player with the most goals in the sport's history, as he does not see any player getting close to him.
The Portuguese had reached the 900-goal mark just last month. But he claimed he could no longer think in the long term about the 1000-goal mark and thus was living in the moment. He said (via GOAL):
"I now face my life as living in the moment. I can't think long term anymore. I said publicly that I wanted to reach 1,000 goals, but it seems that now everything is easy, just last month I reached 900. It's about living in the moment, seeing how my legs will respond in the next few years. If I reach 1,000 goals, that's fine, but if I don't, I'm already the player with the most goals in history."
Cristiano Ronaldo was awarded the Platinum Quinas at the Quinas De Ouro gala, the highest honour given to Portuguese players. The FPF president also spoke about the Al Nassr star and hailed the forward as an outstanding ambassador for the country.
Cristiano Ronaldo was desperate to reach 1000 goals
Cristiano Ronaldo had claimed earlier this year in September that he aimed to score 1000 career goals. He also took a cheeky dig at Pele and claimed that he had all his goals on record, unlike the Brazilian legend. He said on Rio Ferdinand's podcast:
"I want to reach 1,000 goals. If I don't have any injuries, this for me is the most important [thing], I want that. For me, the best mark that I can have in football is to reach, first, 900 goals. After, my challenge is to be at 1,000 goals. All the goals I have scored, they have video. They all have video. Listen, I respect all of them [Pele and Di Stefano]. And if you want more goals I can bring them from training. I will prove to the people. They prefer this player, or this is the best one. I don't care about that."
Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 10 goals in 15 matches for Al Nassr this season. He has also scored in three of the four matches with Portugal in the UEFA Nations League.
