"In two years, he’ll be out of the game" - Former PL striker offers to help Marcus Rashford at Manchester United
Former Watford striker Troy Deeney believes Manchester United's Marcus Rashford could be done with football before he turns 30. The 27-year-old has struggled to live up to expectations in the last 18 months.
Rashford has registered seven goals and three assists from 24 games across competitions for the Red Devils this season. His future has come under further scrutiny following the arrival of Ruben Amorim at Manchester United last month.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Deeney advised his countryman to work hard and enjoy football.
“He’s 27-years old, he’s meant to be at the peak of his powers. All his finances are taken care of. All he needs to do is work hard and enjoy your football. It’s a great job and I sit here genuinely a fan of Marcus and say, ‘Come on mate, come to the party’," said Deeney.
He continued:
"Because if not, unfortunately in two years, he’ll be out of the game. And I know that’s a strong statement, but where does he go from here? Where’s he going to allow himself to go?”
Deeney also offered to help Rashford to get his act together.
“I genuinely want to help him. When this is all said and done - I’m 36 now - do you really want to be sat in your big house with your Mrs and your kids going, ‘I used to be...’," said Deeney.
He concluded:
"Most of the lads who struggle are the ones who go, 'I just wish if only I could', they have all this regret and then they struggle in life afterwards."
Rashford's contract with Manchester United expires in 2028.
Will Manchester United offload Marcus Rashford in 2025?
Marcus Rashford rose through the ranks at Manchester United, before breaking into the first team under former manager Louis van Gaal. The Englishman has since registered 138 goals and 68 assists from 426 games across competitions.
However, recent reports from Sky Sports have claimed that the Red Devils are ready to let him go for just £40m in 2025. His departure will also help the club adhere to FFP regulations. While the player has struggled of late, his stock remains high and he won't be short of options if he decides to leave Old Trafford.
Barcelona are reportedly eyeing the player with interest, but could face competition from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for the player (va SportsMole). Manchester United could reportedly be open to his exit in January if the right offer arrives.
