“Incredible second half”, “Arne Slot showing his worth” - Liverpool fans react as Reds beat Ipswich Town to record first PL win of the campaign
Liverpool fans have reacted on X after they defeated newly-promoted Ipswich Town 2-0 at Portman Road (Saturday, August 17). Arne Slot also recorded his first official win as Reds' manager as they got off to the perfect start in the 2024-25 Premier League season.
The Reds struggled in the first half and had to depend on utilizing long balls to create chances up front. The hosts defended well and effectively nullified the threats of Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz going into the break.
Slot opted to replace Jarell Quansah with Ibrahima Konate at half-time. Liverpool looked much more threatening and fluid after this change, with Diogo Jota missing a massive chance after his header from Trent Alexander-Arnold's perfect cross missed the target.
However, Jota made no mistake in the 60th minute smashing home following Mohamed Salah's cross. The latter made it 2-0 five minutes later with a clever finish after some quick interplay with Dominik Szoboszlai.
The Reds pushed for more goals, landing 18 shots in total during the game but were denied by some good saves by Christian Walton.
One fan reacted to the result by posting:
"Incredible second half."
Another fan tweeted:
"Arne Slot showing his worth in the Premier League. Liverpool aren’t going anywhere."
"AND THAT'S WHY YOU DON'T OVERREACT AFTER ONLY 45 MINUTES OF THE SEASON," one fan pointed out after the Reds struggled to get going in the first half.
"Great start to the season let's go," another commented.
"Biggest club in Europe no doubt," one fan tweeted.
"Damn the chances Liverpool have missed in this game, could’ve easily won 5-0," one fan noticed.
"3 points. A win to start the Arne Slot era is brilliant. Having said that we have harder challenges ahead of us than Ipswich City. This squad imo still has needs to address, some players can & need to play better but a confidence booster ahead of a long season. Up the reds!" another chimed in.
Ipswich Town 0-2 Liverpool: Who was the highest-rated player?
Liverpool extended their Premier League opening weekend unbeaten run to 12 matches after they comfortably defeated Ipswich Town 2-0 on Saturday. Mohamed Salah was deemed to have performed the best (via FotMob), after garnering a rating of 8.5.
Salah scored one goal and provided one assist during his 90 minutes on the pitch. The 32-year-old also created two big chances and registered all three of his shots on target, looking threatening in the second half after a slow start before the break.
The Egyptian King also created history after becoming the first-ever player to score nine goals on the opening day of the Premier League. This also came on his 350th appearance for the Reds across all competitions, with his new record moving him clear of Frank Lampard, Alan Shearer, and Wayne Rooney.
