"It doesn’t change anything" - Xavi breaks silence amid reports of possible sack at Barcelona
Xavi has revealed that he has not heard anything from the Barcelona board. He added that the sack rumors are wide off the mark and believe he still has the support needed.
Speaking to the media ahead of Barcelona's game against Sevilla, Xavi claimed that he papers were making things up to sell. He added that he was calm about the situation and said:
"The club reassures me and gives me hope and we continue with the same ambition. I understand all the noise, but it doesn't change anything. I am not interested. I receive information, but I am interested in having the confidence of the president and Deco, which is still intact. Nothing has changed. I understand that the media have to publish anything, but for me nothing has changed."
He added:
"We will sit down. If there is something to talk about, we will talk about it. It's been three weeks since we sat here to announce that it was still going on. Absolutely nothing changes. If there is any change, we will say so. I'm calm and looking forward to tomorrow's game. I can't give you any more information. We want to win and compete and secure second place. I have zero doubts that things can go well. I have an extraordinary core of players in the squad, with people from La Masia who have consolidated their position. I'm still eager and excited. Barça is the club of my life."
Xavi had resigned from his post earlier this year and had announced that he would be leaving at the end of the season. However, the board convinced him to stay for another year and the decision was made public in April.
Xavi remains focused on Barcelona vs Sevilla
Xavi was quizzed in his press conference if he was affected by the rumors around his future. He was quick to dismiss it and claimed that he was only focused on the match on Sunday.
He said:
"I'm focused on tomorrow's game. I'm not focused on whether I deserve it or not. These things tend to happen. I've told them that I'm proud to be at Barça. We are focused on tomorrow's game."
Barcelona can seal the second spot in the league with a win over Sevilla. They can also seal the spot if Girona drop points in their match against Valencia.
