“It makes no sense” - Kylian Mbappe told why he should’ve joined Premier League giants instead of Real Madrid by former L’Equipe CEO
Former L'Equipe CEO Cyril Linette has told Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe why he should have joined Premier League giants Manchester United. The French World Cup winner left Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2024, moving to the Santiago Bernabeu after a long, drawn-out transfer saga.
However, his move has not yielded much fruit. He may have scored seven goals and provided an assist in 12 La Liga games, but it is worth noting that three of those goals have come from penalties. His general performance has affected his international duty with France, with head coach Didier Deschamps omitting him during the November international break.
Kylian Mbappe has now been told that he should have signed for a club like Manchester United, who were linked to him while he was at Monaco. Former L'Equipe CEO Cyril Linette said to RMC (via Football365):
“I’m not saying that Mbappe is heading towards failure but he joined a club where, in his position, there is a player at least as good as he is. It makes no sense. He will have spent his whole career playing at clubs where there is a left winger at least as good as him, with Neymar at PSG and Vinicius Jr at Real."
Linette added:
“He could have gone to England, tried to get Man Utd going again, for example. There, he could have played in his position and could have written a great story. I don’t see what exceptional things he can achieve at Real, who have already done everything without him.”
It's a bit too late for a move to Manchester United right now, with Kylian Mbappe only recently joining Real Madrid. However, the French forward will hope he can rediscover his brilliant form and return to his spot in the France national team.
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti slams questions about Kylian Mbappe's mental health
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has slammed questions from the Spanish press about Kylian Mbappe's mental health. These questions have arisen following the French forward's struggles to adapt to his new club. However, the manager was not having it.
Ahead of their 3-0 LaLiga win over Leganes at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque on November 24, Ancelotti said (via The Sporting News):
"What a question. I don't have the impression that he has any mental health problems. I see him as happy to be here, if he is, he doesn't show it, but I think speculating about problems of this type is a bit ugly."
The Real Madrid manager will be pleased that Mbappe scored in the Leganes match. He found the back of the net in the 43rd minute to open the scoring. Meanwhile, goals from Federico Valverde (66') and Jude Bellingham (85') sealed the win.
