“It was the message that we wanted to send” - Diogo Dalot on Manchester United securing 5-2 win in first game after Ten Hag sacking

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has spoken about the message the side wanted to send after their defeat to West Ham United at the weekend (October 27). Speaking after their 5-2 win over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup on October 30, the Portugal international insisted that the Red Devils were more determined in the final third.

He said (via MUTV):

"I think it was the message that we wanted to send after a defeat and a tough week," Dalot told MUTV. "That was the minimum that we could show for ourselves and for our fans."
"I think they enjoyed tonight and we did as well. We scored a lot of goals, some good goals, and it was a good night at Old Trafford."

He added:

"I think that summarized a little bit of this season. We were creating enough to score and win games; the difference was we probably had a little bit more determination inside the final third, believing that we were going to score."
"I think there was confidence that we were going to score. Today, I think Cas' goal breaks a little bit of that."
"We scored some good goals and overall it was a good match. We still had two goals that we conceded that we should avoid, but overall it was a good night for us and we are through."

The 2-1 loss to the Hammers saw Manchester United eventually relieve Erik ten Hag of his duties following a difficult start to the campaign. The Red Devils are 14th in the league and winless in Europe, leading to the Dutchman's dismissal.

With Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim set to arrive soon, Ruud van Nistelrooy took up interim duties for the clash against the Foxes. Braces from Casemiro (15', 39') and Bruno Fernandes (36', 59') along with a goal from Alejandro Garnacho (28') sealed their progress into the next round.

Manchester United fans will have to wait a little longer to see their new manager Ruben Amorim in the Old Trafford dugout. According to Mail Sport, the Portuguese boss has a notice period to serve in his contract with Sporting CP.

While the Red Devils have already paid the manager's €10 million release clause, the report claims they may fork up more to ensure his timely arrival to England. Negotiations are also underway to bring three members of his staff along with him.

Amorim is set to replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, after a two-and-a-half-year stint for the Dutchman. He collected two trophies, the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup, but an eighth-place finish last season and a poor start to this one led to his eventual sacking.
