“It's becoming so predictable” - Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe shuts down ‘fake news’ following sexual assault allegations in Sweden
Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe has rubbished claims that police are investigating a rape case at a hotel where he spent two days with his friends in Sweden. Mbappe took to X to label the report as ‘’fake news’’.
According to Swedish media Aftonbladet, Mbappe and his friends visited Sweden for two days last week. The Frenchman went to Chez Jolie restaurant in Stockholm, the country’s capital, on Thursday evening (October 10) with his friends, before they headed to V nightclub in Stureplan. He was said to have left the country on Friday afternoon (October 11).
Following Kylian Mbappe’s departure from Sweden, the abovementioned source reported that the police are investigating an alleged rape that took place at the hotel where the former Paris Saint-Germain man and his friends stayed. The rape incident was alleged to have taken place on Thursday night.
After Aftonbladet posted the story on its website, French outlet RMC Sport reported the same and posted it on its X handle, but it has since been deleted. The story, however, didn’t sit well with Mbappe as he debunked it immediately. He tweeted:
‘’FAKE NEWS!!!! ❌❌❌It's becoming so predictable, just before the hearing as if by chance.’’
Below is a screenshot of the initial tweet before a part of it was deleted.
The police arrived at the alleged crime scene on Monday, October 14. Aftonbladet further reported that the police took up the case after the victim had sought care. The prosecutor in charge of the rape investigation also declined to comment on the issue.
This saga comes ahead of the hearing over €55 million in unpaid wages between Mbappe and Paris Saint Germain. Both parties are to meet in the LFP's appeals committee on Tuesday, October 15.
Real Madrid midfielder says everything about Kylian Mbappe is exaggerated
Real Madrid defensive midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni has jumped to the defense of his teammate Kylian Mbappe. Apart from playing together at Real Madrid, Tchouameni and Mbappe are national teammates for France.
Mbappe came under criticism for being caught in Stockholm while Les Blues were playing against Israel in the Nations League on Thursday. Ahead of France’s clash with Belgium on Monday night, Tchouameni defended Mbappe in the pre-match press conference. He said (via Diario AS);
“I think we are giving too much importance to the Mbappé thing. Everyone can think what they want, but we know that every time it is about Kylian it is exaggerated. We talk about him after the game, before the game, so it doesn’t matter where he watched the game, it’s not our problem . Mbappé’s love for the French national team is unquestionable. He sent messages to all the players asking how things were going. We are looking forward to him coming back."
Mbappe was not a part of France's squad due to an injury.
