"It's the best stage in Europe" – Michael Owen names the one club that could sign Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool

Ex-Liverpool striker Michael Owen has asserted that Real Madrid are the only club in the world that could lure Trent Alexander-Arnold away from the Merseyside outfit this summer.

Alexander-Arnold, 25, has emerged as a major topic of discussion with his deal set to expire next June. Due to his contract situation, he has lately drawn interest from Real Madrid, who won the double last term.

During a recent interaction with UK-based online bookmaker Casino Hawks, Owen was queried to offer his two cents on the Liverpool vice-captain's future. He replied (h/t DAZN):

"With Trent Alexander-Arnold and the Real Madrid speculation, I was also put in a position during my career in which I had to make a quick decision in a week or so on my future and it was a tricky one. Obviously, Real Madrid at the moment are the best team in Europe. They are the biggest team in the world and have that iconic kit and their players... it's the best stage in Europe."

Owen, who left the Anfield side to join Los Blancos in 2004, continued:

"I had a similar thing at that stage of my career and I decided that it was an opportunity that I couldn't pass up. I don't know if it's an opportunity for Trent or a possibility but he'd have a lot to think about if they came in for him."

Offering further thoughts on the England international, Owen added:

"Having said that, he's so ingrained into Liverpool and the fans love him, he's grown up with the club and it's such a strong connection. It's only Real Madrid that could make him have a think, if not then you'd have to assume he'll be at Liverpool forever. I hope that is the case but he might have a decision to make."

Overall, Alexander-Arnold has found the back of the net 19 times and registered 81 assists in 310 games across competitions for the Reds.

25-year-old interested in joining Liverpool

According to Spanish sports outlet Relevo, Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi is keen to secure a move to Arne Slot's team this summer.

Zubimendi, who is said to have an exit clause of £51 million, has been one of Real Sociedad's most important performers since his debut in 2019. He has contributed eight goals and seven assists in 188 games for the La Liga side, helping them win a Copa del Rey trophy so far.

The 25-year-old Spaniard played in four games at the UEFA Euro 2024.
