"It’s different from Klopp but a lot of the principles are the same" - Dirk Kuyt heaps praise on Liverpool manager target Arne Slot
Former Liverpool player Dirk Kuyt has given his support for the Red's managerial target Arne Slot. The Dutch manager has proven himself to be a stable and skilled manager in the Eredivisie with Feyenoord. He looks set for a step up to one of the larger European clubs with the Reds.
Kuyt spoke about Slot and stressed that there's no need to compare managers to others. He insisted that Arne Slot had his own style of play and was not in any way going to attempt to clone Klopp's. He wrote in his column for The Athletic:
"Following in the footsteps of Jurgen isn’t easy but Arne will do it his own way and give everything to make the club successful. He’s determined and driven with a lot of self-belief. His style of play is exactly what Liverpool supporters love to see at Anfield.
"He’s also good with the media because he explains himself very clearly. As Feyenoord have so many foreign players, he conducts his meetings in English so there will be no issues over language."
The former Liverpool man concluded:
"Nowadays managers always get compared. Is it the Jurgen Klopp style? Is it the Jose Mourinho style? Is it the Pep Guardiola style? The answer is that Slot has his own style. He doesn’t copy anyone. He knows exactly what he wants and he believes in it.
"It’s attractive, attacking football. He likes to play an aggressive defence, high intensity, with the game played in the opponent’s half, but it’s his way. It’s different from Klopp but a lot of the principles are the same."
Slot has revealed that he is interested in joining Liverpool and it's up to the negotiations between the two clubs.
Outgoing Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp likes idea of Arne Slot replacing him
Outgoing Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has voiced his support of the club's intention to potentially replace him with Arne Slot in the summer. The German manager announced that he would be leaving the Reds in the summer and caused a search for a replacement at the club.
Arne Slot has already publicly stated that he would be keen to take the job at Anfield in the summer. His interest in taking the job caused Klopp to comment during an interview via the Daily Mirror:
"I like a lot about it, if he is the one, he wants to take the job. Really is desperate. Come on, let’s go for it. Excited. I like the way his team play football. All the things I hear about him as a guy, a good guy. Some people I know know him, I don’t know him yet. Some people tell me that he is a really good guy. I like that a lot."
The German finished:
“Good coach, good guy. Looking forward for the club if he is the solution or the man. I’m more than happy. It’s not up to me to judge these things but it all sounds really good to me. Best job in the world, best club in the world, best job in the world.
"Obviously now I even help by not finishing on a high, it looks like. There is space for improvement. Great job, great team, fantastic people. He ‘would’ take a really, really interesting job.”
Liverpool are third in the Premier League, three points behind leaders Arsenal.
