"It’s not going to be easy, but we still have a chance" - Columbus Crew star on facing Lionel Messi's Inter Miami ahead of MLS clash
Columbus Crew star Rudy Camacho has admitted that it will not be easy to face Lionel Messi. However, he believes that his side can beat Inter Miami, like they did in the Leagues Cup earlier this year.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Camacho talked about having chances against the MLS leaders when the two sides meet in the league on October 2. He said:
“It’s always nice to play against players like this, that’s what we want, so this is a good game for us. We played against Miami in Leagues Cup and we won, so we can do it again, we still have a chance, it’s not going to be easy, but we still have a chance and if we beat them on Wednesday, we can believe in it, first place.”
Lionel Messi and Inter Miami are set for a historic night on Wednesday as a win can seal the Supporters’ Shield for them. They had failed to make the play-offs last season but have been on a tremendous run this year.
Lionel Messi yet to regain full fitness, confirms Inter Miami boss
Lionel Messi is still not fully fit and needs time to get back to his best, Tata Martino has claimed. The Inter Miami manager added that the Argentine is confident about doing well and wants to help out as and when possible. He said at the press conference:
“We’re used to the fact that Leo is a player who gets into better physical shape as the games go by. He did struggle at the beginning [vs Charlotte], we all saw what happened, but then as the game went on, he did very well and he finished strongly. We saw his number on the GPS and they were good, well above normal, so let’s hope that now he can build from these numbers.”
Sergio Busquets added that the addition of Messi has changed their system, but it is always an advantage to have the former Barcelona superstar in the squad. He said:
“It’s true that with Leo and Luis there’s a change in system, and we have to adapt, but it’s an advantage to have him, and honestly, we need to find him more because we know what he’s capable of doing.”
Inter Miami have never won the Supporters’ Shield and it would be their first ever title should they beat Columbus Crew tonight.
