“It’s hard to rate him on that match” - Denmark boss makes feelings clear about Manchester United star Rasmus Hojlund amid struggle to score goals
Denmark boss Brian Riemer has refused to criticize Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund following his poor performance against Spain. He believes the striker unsurprisingly did not get enough chances as they were up against a difficult side.
Riemer told the media that strikers need help from their teammates on the pitch and everyone must do better. He is hoping Denmark play better when they face Serbia on Monday, November 18, saying:
"I think it's hard to rate him on that match. We met a strong team, and it is not so easy to create chances against them. I hope that we can help to serve Rasmus even better because one of the criteria for scoring goals as a striker is also that you get some chances, and after all, it has to come from both the wide and central points."
"We must all make ourselves better at helping Rasmus, Kasper Dolberg, Jonas Wind, Yussuf and whoever else can play forward to get chances in the Danish national team. It is one of the things I hope we can bring in when we meet teams that are perhaps at the level below Spain – that we create a lot more," he added.
Rasmus Hojlund has scored just once in seven matches in the Premier League this season for Manchester United. He has another goal in four Europa League matches but has failed to score for Denmark in the UEFA Nations League.
When Paul Scholes said Rasmus Hojlund can't lead Manchester United's attack
Paul Scholes spoke about Rasmus Hojlund in the summer and said the youngster was not ready to lead Manchester United's attack. He wanted the Red Devils to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford and use the Denmark international as a backup.
The Manchester United legend said on The Overlap via the Mirror:
"You look at someone like Ivan Toney if he could come to us. Could he score 25 goals? I think he could. I think he [Hojlund] is really good but he has been brought into this country at 19 [21] years of age and he has been asked to be the No.9 for Man United. It is an iconic role for players who are scoring 20, 25, 30 goals and winning league titles. He should be a second, third or fourth-choice striker at a big club."
Manchester United also signed Joshua Zirkzee in the summer but are reportedly back in the market for another striker in January. They have been linked with Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyökeres.
