"It’s hurting a lot having to write this" - Manchester United star Luke Shaw issues statement on social media after picking up injury
Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has shared a statement on social media following his recent injury setback. The Englishman only returned to full fitness in November and is yet to start a game for the Red Devils this season.
Shaw missed much of last season due to injuries, registering just 15 appearances across competitions for the Premier League giants. He picked up a knee injury over the summer and missed the start of the 2024-25 season.
Shaw's return to action for Manchester United coincided with Ruben Amorim's arrival at Old Trafford in November. The 29-year-old has featured in each of the Portuguese tactician's first three games, albeit from the bench.
However, in a message shared on social media, Shaw has confirmed that he has picked up a fresh injury and will be sidelined for a while.
“Hi guys, it’s hurting a lot having to write this as I really thought I had got through my recent struggles and was on a positive path going forward, but unfortunately I’ve had a small setback,” Shaw wrote.
He continued:
“I understand there is gunna be people frustrated, angry, disappointed and I understand all that. There is no one feeling that more than me at this moment in time.”
He concluded:
“But what I can promise is I will do everything I can to come back better soon to help this club achieve its ambitions this season.”
Manchester United are missing Lisandro Martinez - due to suspension - for their game against Arsenal on Wednesday, December 4. Shaw was expected to play a part against the Gunners, so his absence will be a huge setback for Amorim.
When did Luke Shaw join Manchester United?
Luke Shaw arrived at Manchester United from Southampton in the summer of 2014 as one of the most promising young footballers in the world. The Red Devils reportedly paid the Saints a £30m fee for the Englishman.
However, Shaw suffered a horrific double leg-break in September 2015 that saw him sidelined for a while. It was the start of the player's poor run of luck with injuries.
The 29-year-old has missed 86 games for club and country since the start of the 2023/24 season. The situation has prompted Manchester United to look for a new left-back.
Recent reports have linked the Red Devils to Bayern Munich speedster Alphonso Davies and AC Milan's Theo Hernandez. Ruben Amorim apparently has his eyes on RB Leipzig's David Raum as well.
