“It's time to put ourselves into history” - Kobbie Mainoo reacts after England's Euro 2024 S/F win over the Netherlands

England have made it to the final of Euro 2024 after beating the Netherlands 2-1. The match took place at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund on Wednesday, July 10.

The Netherlands opened the scoring with midfielder Xavi Simons' goal just seven minutes into the clash. The Three Lions equalized in the 18th minute after Harry Kane successfully netted a penalty which was awarded after Dutch defender Denzel Dumfries committed a foul on the England captain.

Gareth Southgate's men won it late with forward Ollie Watkins netting in the 90th minute with an assist by Cole Palmer.

After England qualified for the Euro 2024 final, Kobbie Mainoo said (via @centredevils on X):

"It's time to put ourselves into history."

Speaking about their performance against the Netherlands, the 19-year-old Manchester United midfielder added:

"We had the game under control in the middle of the park. And I feel like in the second half we just had to grind it out. It was tough but the whole squad was a help, with the impact off the bench from Cole and Ollie. What a finish!"

England will face Spain in the Euro 2024 final on July 14 at Olympiastadion in Berlin.

British sports commentator Peter Drury spoke about Kobbie Mainoo after the Three Lions' Euro 2024 semi-final win against the Netherlands. Praising the 19-year-old midfielder's growth on the pitch, Drury said (via @UtdFaithfuls on X):

"Kobbie Mainoo is the only player on the pitch who you might probably not have heard of one year ago. Remarkable rise."

Mainoo, who made his senior debut for Manchester United in 2023, has netted three goals and provided one assist in 24 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils. The Englishman made his debut for the national team in March this year.

The Three Lions have been runners-up in the UEFA European Championship in 2021 and finished third in 1968 and 1996, while Spain have won it thrice, the last one being in 2012.
