"It wouldn't surprise me" - Alan Shearer backs Arsenal star to be England skipper in the future
Alan Shearer has backed Arsenal star Bukayo Saka to be the England captain in the future. He believes the forward has the attitude and ability to be the leader of the squad.
Speaking to BetFair, Shearer highlighted that Saka has already captained the Gunners and claimed he has what it takes to lead the national team one day.
"It wouldn't surprise me to see Saka as a future England captain too," Shearer said. "He's already captained Arsenal and because of his attitude, ability, and the way everyone looks up to him, that to me shows he has all the attributes to be an England captain. When your team needs you the most to pull something out of the bag, Saka can and does do that. I am 100% certain Saka could be a future England captain."
"Bukayo Saka is absolutely sensational in everything he does. He gets whacked every single game, people try to double up on him, kick him and he just goes out and performs with such consistency. He's an incredible talent, has a great personality, and he's just impossible not to like. His attitude is second to none; think of the way he has responded to what happened to him with England in 2021, and the way he's moved on from it. He's just a phenomenal talent, and he's so gutsy and tough as well," he added.
Harry Kane is the current England captain, but the Bayern Munich star is 31 and is near the end of his career. Arsenal stars Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice have been touted to take over the armband from the striker soon.
Pundit claims Arsenal star Bukayo Saka is not world-class
During an appearance on talkSPORT this week, Ally McCoist said he was a Bukayo Saka fan. However, he does not think the Arsenal star is world-class and believes the Englishman is a level below Mohamed Salah.
"I really like him, I think he's a terrific player," McCoist said. "I think Salah is world-class, I think Saka is international-class and he has the potential to become world-class. Do I like Saka? You better believe I do. He's absolutely vital to Arsenal. There's continued improvement in him, but I would be reserving the world-class tag just at the moment."
The Gunners are third in the Premier League this season after seven matches. They have been trophyless since winning the FA Cup in 2020.
