Jamal Musiala says he prefers 23-year-old star Chelsea wanted to sign last summer ahead of Cole Palmer

Jamal Musiala sided with his Bayern Munich teammate Michael Olise when asked to choose between the latter and Chelsea attacker Cole Palmer. It isn't surprising that the Germany international went with the player he's shared the pitch on 19 occasions with, managing nine joint-goal contributions across competitions.

The Frenchman was a hot prospect in the summer of 2024, which is when he joined the Bavarians from Crystal Palace for a reported €53 million. Reports even suggested that Olise was being pursued by the Blues, who eventually failed to secure his services.

Since moving to Bayern Munich, the 23-year-old has done fairly well, bagging nine goals and seven assists in 22 appearances across competitions. His performances have helped his German employers to the top of the Bundesliga standings, where they are four points clear of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen.

Of course, in picking Olise. Musiala snubbed a top player in the Premier League at the moment, Palmer. The attacking midfielder has been brilliant for the Blues since joining them from Manchester City in the summer of 2023 for a reported fee of €47 million.

This year alone, he's played 18 matches across competitions, bagging 11 goals and six assists. Overall, Palmer has featured on 63 occasions for the west Londoners, scoring 36 goals and assisting 21.

The forward has spearheaded much of Chelsea's successful outings this campaign. The Blues are second in the English top flight, two points behind leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank was full of praise for Chelsea's Cole Palmer ahead of their 2-1 defeat to the Blues on Sunday (December 15). He addressed the threat that the Englishman poses heading into this fixture.

However, Palmer failed to register a goal contribution in this tie, with Marc Cucurella and Nicolas Jackson getting on the scoresheet. Frank said about the attacker (via Daily Star):

"He is top, top right now - maybe him and Salah, probably, are the two biggest individual players, with the biggest skill set, that are dictating games for their team. And Cole Palmer, we know, you know, it's his finish outside the box. It's his assist-making, either crosses or balls in behind or slide passes."

Up next for Chelsea in the Premier League is a trip to Goodison Park to face Everton on Sunday (December 22).
