Jamie Carragher believes England have to sacrifice 'quality' duo for 2 other players ahead of Euro 2024 clash against Slovenia

Jamie Carragher has urged England to drop Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold and Manchester City ace Phil Foden from their starting lineup ahead of their UEFA Euro 2024 clash against Slovenia.

Earlier this Thursday (June 20), England played out a 1-1 Euro 2024 draw against Group C opponents Denmark. Harry Kane opened the scoring in the 18th minute, but Morten Hjulmand equalized in the 34th minute.

Gareth Southgate's team, who are fifth in the FIFA rankings, failed to register their second successive win due to a lacklustre display in Frankfurt. They relished 49% possession, recorded 12 shots, created 0.87 xG, and completed 455 passes with 86% accuracy.

Taking to X, Carragher claimed that Southgate should drop Alexander-Arnold and Foden to make the most of his Euro 2024 squad. He wrote:

"England have to sacrifice quality in Trent & Foden for energy in [Conor] Gallagher or [Kobbie] Mainoo & pace in [Anthony] Gordon. [Harry] Kane needs pace either side of him & [Declan] Rice needs more help in midfield. Go 4-3-3 & drop [Jude] Bellingham slightly deeper."

The Three Lions, who beat Serbia 1-0 in their first Group C contest, will next face Slovenia in Cologne on Tuesday (June 25). They are currently atop Group C with four points with a goal difference of +1.

Conor Gallagher opines on England's draw against Denmark in Euro 2024 group clash

Speaking after England's latest 1-1 draw, Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher said that his national side are motivated to perform better against Slovenia. He said (h/t englandfootball.com):

"It was a tough game and we know we can do a lot better than what we showed. Credit to Denmark, they played well and they're a good side but we've got to look at ourselves and where we can improve. When you look at it, a point is not the worst result and we're looking forward to the next game."

Gallagher, who came on as a substitute against Denmark, concluded

"The instruction was just to give a bit of energy and pressure on the ball and try to keep the ball better than what we were doing to try and control the game. We know that if we're going to win the tournament, we've got to play better, so we'll look to improve how we're playing on and off the ball. The good thing is that we know we can do better."

Gallagher, 24, completed 14 of 17 passes, won three of seven duels, and failed to win his single tackle in Thursday's Euro 2024 encounter.

Last campaign, the midfielder found the back of the net seven times and recorded nine assists in 50 overall appearances for Chelsea.
