Joao Cancelo seen making strange demand to Marc Guiu after 17-year-old’s winning-goal for Barcelona against Athletic Bilbao
Barcelona defender Joao Cancelo was caught on camera making a rather strange and hilarious demand to youngster Marc Guiu.
Guiu was the hero for La Blaugrana in their most recent La Liga clash against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, October 22. Xavi's side managed a narrow 1-0 win at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.
Due to an injury crisis in the senior team, young attacker Guiu was called up. With the score at a 0-0 stalemate, Xavi sent the youngster on for Fermin Lopez. Guiu repaid this manager's faith, scoring the winner with his second touch of the match.
After the game, Barcelona's players congratulated Marc Guiu. Joao Cancelo, though, was spotted making an unusual claim. The Portuguese full-back told Guiu (via Mirror):
“You have to buy us a dinner now. You have to buy us a dinner in McDonald’s.”
Cancelo played the full 90 minutes of the clash against Bilbao. La Blaugrana will return to action later tonight (October 25) as they take on Shakhtar Donetsk in a UEFA Champions League home clash.
Here's how Marc Guiu reacted to his fairytale Barcelona debut
Marc Guiu was the star of the show on his Barcelona debut. The whole process of getting called up to the first team and then scoring the winner within seconds of coming on was a surreal one for the youngster, judging by his post-match reaction.
Guiu told the media after the game (as quoted by The Mirror):
"I can't breathe. I'm just enjoying the moment, I'm still flying. I have been working hard all season to take any chances should they come. When I saw the goalkeeper coming off his line, I decided to shoot. Before going on, Xavi told me to just do the same as I do in the youth team. And to take any chances that came my way. And that's exactly what I did!"
Guiu was played in by Joao Felix for the winning goal. The 17-year-old later took to Instagram to pen a heartfelt message, writing:
"Happy to fulfil the dream of debuting with the best club in the world @fcbarcelona and to have helped the team get the three points. Thanking the master for the confidence placed in me on such a special day, also thanking all the coaches I've had, colleagues, friends and especially all my family, who have helped me reach here."
He added:
"Now it’s time to keep working and improving day by day to help the club achieve its objectives. Many thanks to all the cules for your support on this special day for me. Visca el Barça."
Marc Guiu has already shown his promise, and he could become a handy addition to Barcelona's senior team for the rest of the campaign. With the likes of Lamine Yamal, Fermin Lopez, and Guiu, the Catalan club's future looks in safe hands.
