Jose Mourinho named leading candidate to replace PSG's current boss Christophe Galtier: Reports

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are said to be advancing in their move to rope in AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho ahead of the 2023-24 season.

PSG are reportedly set to sack Christophe Galtier this summer as they have not been impressed with the club's achievements under his command. The Parisians are on course to defend their league title. They are currently first in the standings with a six-point lead over second-placed Lens.

However, PSG's wait for the elusive Champions League title continues after the club were knocked out of the tournament in the Round of 16 after losing 3-0 on aggregate to Bayern Munich.

While Galtier's contract with PSG runs until 2024, he is not expected to see out his contract at the Parc des Princes. La Repubblica have reported that the club is now eyeing Mourinho as their next coach.

Mourinho guided Roma to their first European trophy since 1961 with victory in last season's Europa Conference League. The report also states that the relationship between Roma and Mourinho is not in calm waters. The Portuguese manager is said to be annoyed by the fact that the two parties are yet to come together and discuss their respective futures.

The report further states that the Italian side now feels like a ‘prison’ for Mourinho and that PSG are advancing in their move for the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss.

Jose Mourinho, whose Roma contract expires at the end of next season, has a great relationship with PSG sporting director Luis Campos after the pair worked together at Real Madrid.

The 60-year-old is aiming for back-to-back European successes after guiding Roma to the Europa League final, where they will face Sevilla.

Roma boss Jose Mourinho offers humorous response when asked about interest from PSG

Jose Mourinho had a hilarious response when asked about a potential move to Paris Saint-Germain. When asked by Sky Sports about the speculation linking him with a move to PSG, the AS Roma head coach said:

"An interest from PSG? If they're looking for me, they didn't find me because they haven't talked to me (laughs)!"

Mourinho has previously hinted that he may not fulfill his contract with Roma, telling DAZN:

"The situation is clear, from a contractual point of view I still have one year on my contract. Football is football, sometimes contracts aren’t the most important thing."
