Jose Mourinho names Real Madrid superstar as the best young player in world football
Former Chelsea and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has named Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham as the best young player in the world.
At only 20 years of age, the England international has established himself as a key component of Carlo Ancelotti's set-up at the Santiago Bernabeu. He decided to join the Spanish giants from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2023 for a reported €103 million.
In his first season at Madrid, Bellingham made 42 appearances across competitions, bagging 23 goals and 13 assists. Speaking about the youngster, Mourinho said (via @theMadridZone):
"For me Jude Bellingham is the best young player in the world. Looking into the future and just imagining what he can become in a few years."
In his first season with Real Madrid, Bellingham managed to win the UEFA Champions League and La Liga trophies. He's now looking to add the European Championships to that list as well this summer.
The midfielder helped England win their first match of Euro 2024 by scoring the only goal in their 1-0 triumph over Serbia on Sunday (June 16). To date, he's made 30 appearances across competitions for The Three Lions, bagging four goals.
At the moment, England are top of Group C after one game. They play their next group game against Denmark on Thursday (June 20).
Gary Cahill places Manchester City star over Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham
Former Chelsea defender Gary Cahill, meanwhile, believes Manchester City attacker Phil Foden is better than Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham. Both players are considered among the top talents today and appear beside one another for England.
This season, Foden helped Manchester City to the Premier League title, contributing 19 goals and eight assists. Speaking to LiveScore on TikTok, Cahill was asked to rank England's best players, and he said (via Manchester City News):
"For me, Foden is top, he's had an unbelievable season, off the back of that, Bellingham second. I will go Kane, Saka, and Rice, but that's harsh on Rice because he's an unbelievable player, but he's in that unflattering position."
Foden did start England's first Euro 2024 game against Serbia but failed to influence the proceedings. Overall, he's made 35 appearances across competitions for The Three Lions, bagging just four goals in those matches.
Foden will be expected to start in the front three for England, along with Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka, in their next match.
