Jose Mourinho receives yellow card for hilarious laptop protest against referee during Fenerbahce’s win over Antalyaspor

Jose Mourinho's name is never far from going in the referee's notebook and he received a booking for a bizarre reason against Antalyaspor on Sunday (September 29). The Fenerbahce manager was shown a yellow card for choosing to protest against the referee in his side's 2-0 win over Antalyaspor at the weekend.

Fenerbahce visited Antalya with Mourinho, who was appointed in the summer, in the dugout. The Portuguese manager has seen his side lose just once this season, 3-1 to rivals Galatasaray last weekend, and wanted no such thing to happen against Antalyaspor.

With his side 1-0 up, Turkish referee Cihan Aydin disallowed an Edin Dzeko goal in the 76th minute following an intervention by the VAR, citing an offside call. Jose Mourinho was having none of it and he took a laptop with a frozen image of the move and placed it in front of a broadcast camera.

Referee Aydin came across and showed the former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager a yellow card, taking his name down.

Mourinho's side found a second goal with ten minutes left in the game to take all three points back to Istanbul. Dusan Tadic had opened the scoring in the 64th minute by finishing off an impressive team move. Antalyaspor defender Thalisson Kelven put the ball through his own net to secure the three points for Jose Mourinho's side.

Fenerbahce remain in second place, three points behind rivals Galatasaray, who drew 3-3 against Kasimpasa. Mourinho was appointed to take the Super Lig title from his rivals, with Fenerbahce having finished second last season.

Jose Mourinho explains reason behind bizarre protest against Antalyaspor

Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho offered an explanation for his choice of protest in the game against Antalyaspor on Sunday. The Portuguese manager saw his side win 2-0 despite an offside call, which he did not agree with.

At the post-match press conference, Mourinho pointed out that his video analyst showed him a technical camera angle that may not have been available to the VAR.

Armed with this knowledge, he chose to calmly show the picture to the camera to prove that it was a good goal. Mourinho explained (via ESPN)

"For us, it was a good goal. I didn't say a single word. I didn't put any kind of pressure, I just put the laptop in there... I just reacted calmly."
"The referee decided to give me a yellow card. It's OK. I want a VAR that helps the referee. My analyst put the laptop in front of me with the position of the left-back that probably was not the position that VAR analyzed because we have the technical camera that gives us the complete width of the pitch and the left-back was in position."

Mourinho did not have to see his side drop points on the day in Antalya, as they found a second goal minutes after the offside call. They remain in hot pursuit of rivals Galatasaray for the Super Lig title.
