Journalist says Arsenal outcast has agreed terms with La Liga club, set for loan move away from London giants
Sevilla are set to sign Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga on loan for the 2024-25 season. According to journalist Maximo de la Cruz Ramirez, the La Liga side will pay an initial loan fee and discussions are being held around a buy option in the agreement.
The report, relayed by Spanish outlet Penalty and Fabrizio Romano, read:
"Agreement between Sevilla and Lokonga. The Seville club and the Belgian player Albert Sambi Lokonga have an agreement for the transfer. Sevilla FC will pay the price — which is €3m."
“Now they are looking to reach an agreement with Arsenal who wants to include a mandatory purchase, while Sevilla wants it to be optional.”
Negotiations over the future of the Belgian midfielder are being held, with the Gunners looking to insert a mandatory buy clause in the deal. Sevilla, meanwhile, are insisting on an optional clause.
Lokonga was impressive on loan last season, spending the campaign with Luton Town. Despite the Hatters suffering relegation from the Premier League, the 24-year-old was a solid presence alongside Ross Barkley in midfield when he was fit. He made 19 appearances across competitions, scoring one goal and providing three assists.
Lokonga signed for Arsenal from Belgian side RSC Anderlecht back in the summer of 2021 for £17 million. Initially touted as a prospect with high potential, he struggled to break into the Gunners first team and has failed to live up to expectations so far.

Former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva has suggested that the Gunners should look into signing Manchester United midfielder Casemiro. This comes after Thomas Partey was linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League.
Speaking on bet365's coverage of Copa America, Silva said:
"Casemiro could be a good fit for Arsenal, let’s wait and see what happens."
"It would be very interesting if Thomas Partey left the club. If that spot becomes available then it would be interesting to see Casemiro there, he would bring a very strong and stable option to their midfield."
A report from CaughtOffside has stated that Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which controls four teams - Al-Ahli, Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad, and Al-Hilal - has approached the Ghanaian international over a possible move.
Casemiro, meanwhile, endured a difficult season at Manchester United. The 32-year-old had poor performances playing out of position at centre-back and could seek a move away from Old Trafford.
