Jurgen Klopp chooses best goal, assist, performance and more from Liverpool career, 31-year-old star gets mentioned twice
Outbound Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp recently shared some of the best moments from his nine-year career at Anfield. He named the best goal, assist, performance, and more as Alisson Becker stood out twice.
Klopp announced earlier this season that he's set to leave the club after nine years, where he won almost every trophy available. He will take charge of the Reds one last time when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Sunday, May 19.
In a pre-match press conference, the German was asked to name Liverpool's best performance under him and he answered (via Metro):
"I would say the best football we played was against Manchester City this year. We never controlled City like we did that day. That day we played the best.
"We won before but they were different games. We played really good, scored incredible goals against them, but controlling a game against a team like that, putting them under pressure like that we never did before. So that was my favourite, maybe 60 minutes."
The Reds drew 1-1 against Manchester City at Anfield in the Premier League in March earlier this year. Meanwhile, Klopp also picked some other bests from his career, saying:
"Best goal: Alisson Becker. Best assist: Trent Alexander-Arnold against Barcelona. Best save: Alisson Becker against Napoli."
Goalkeeper Alisson scored the stoppage-time winner for Liverpool in their 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion in the 2020-21 season. He also made an exceptional save against Napoli in the UEFA Champions League group stage in the 2018-19 season.
For the best assist, the Liverpool boss picked Trent Alexander-Arnold's iconic assist for Divock Origi in their 4-0 win over Barcelona. It came in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals second leg, which helped the Reds reach the final and win the trophy.
A look at Jurgen Klopp's time at Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp left Borussia Dortmund and joined the Merseysiders in 2015. He has managed them for 488 games so far, winning 303, drawing 100, and losing 85. The German will hope to add another win when they take on Wolves on Sunday in the final matchday of this Premier League season.
Klopp has won one Premier League title, one UEFA Champions League trophy, one FIFA Club World Cup, one FA Community Shield, and one UEFA Supercup. He's also won two EFL Cups, including the one Liverpool won earlier this season after beating Chelsea in the final.
The German's tenure at Anfield, though, cannot be measured in just the numbers though. His connection with the fans was exceptional and he built a brilliant culture at the club. Feyenoord manager Arne Slot is set to follow in the huge footsteps of the former Borussia Dortmund man.
