"Just helps you when you're on the pitch" - England star praises Arsenal man Declan Rice ahead of 2024 Euros
England central midfielder Adam Wharton heaped praises on national teammate Declan Rice ahead of the 2024 Euros, which starts on Friday, June 14. The Three Lions are pitted against Serbia in their first clash of the championship on Sunday, June 16 at Veltins Arena.
Speaking to the media ahead of England's upcoming match against Serbia, Adam Wharton referred to Arsenal midfielder as "a top player" and said (via 90min):
"I've spoken to Declan, he's a top player. You've seen that over the past few seasons, especially this season - the way that Arsenal play I think has really shown what he can produce. He's a top guy off the pitch, so speaking to him and just learning off everyone, but especially him."
Praising Rice's skills on and off the field, Adam Wharton said:
"We play in similar positions so it's good to pick up on the little things and details, he's really welcomed me into the squad. Even if it's like body positioning, when the ball is in a certain position or just bits of communication, it just helps you when you're on the pitch. When you play with him, the way he communicates as well makes it a lot easier."
England will also be competing in the UEFA Nations League, which commences on September 5.

Adam Wharton started his senior career at Blackburn Rovers in 2022. Following a two-year tenure at his boyhood club, the 20-year-old midfielder joined Premier League club Crystal Palace at the beginning of February this year. This is also his first time playing for England's senior team in the 2024 Euros.
Adam Wharton opened up about the developments in his career which took place within a short span of time this year and said (via 90min):
"It's a surreal feeling, honestly I wasn't expecting it. I've only just gone into the Premier League so I wasn't expecting anything. It was more just a bonus if I did get in. I'm absolutely delighted and to do what I love on the top stage, you can't beat it."
England belongs to Group C for the 2024 Euros, along with Serbia, Denmark, and Slovenia. The Three Lions made it to the UEFA European Championship final in 2020 but failed to claim the title by losing 3-2 on penalties against Italy.
