Juventus News Roundup: Bianconeri still in race to sign Barcelona star, Pirlo backed to emulate Pep and Zidane and more: 9 October 2020
Juventus have added some top quality players to their lineup this past transfer window and the fans and the manager will be looking forward to seeing how the new acquisitions settle down at the club. Juventus continue to be linked with new targets as well with the winter transfer window coming up in a few months.
Without further ado, let's take a look at the top stories involving Juventus from 9 October 2020.
Dynamo Kyiv boss backs Pirlo to emulate Pep and Zidane
Juventus surprised everyone by appointing Andrea Pirlo as the manager after sacking Maurizio Sarri. It is quite obvious that Juventus are taking a gamble with Pirlo but it could be one that pays dividends. Now Dynamo Kyiv boss Mircea Lucescu has tipped Pirlo to take after Pep Guardiola and Zidane who were legendary players themselves.
Lucescu told Football Italia,
“I knew Pirlo would become a coach and the same is true of [Diego] Simeone who I coached at Pisa. I am not surprised Pirlo begins his coaching career at Juventus. It’s not a risky choice for him, the club chose him and will support him. I am very happy for him.”
On Pirlo emulating the likes of Pep and Zidane, he said,
“He can be like them. Andrea was a champion a footballer and can become a big manager.”
Clarence Seedorf backs Ronaldo to equal his Champions League record
Cristiano Ronaldo is a legend of the game and is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time. The Portuguese has played for Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus over the course of his stellar career.
Now Clarence Seedorf has backed Cristiano Ronaldo to equal his record of winning the UEFA Champions League with three different clubs. Speaking to Goal, Seedorf said,
“It'll be a very nice pleasure to have Cristiano Ronaldo equalling my record. We could've talked about somebody different, right? So, I don't think it's a bad thing.
“I will always be the first and that won't change, and records are there to be equalled and to be broken, and Juventus can definitely always be competitors for the Champions League. As I said before, Cristiano is maintaining his motivation and his performances, so yeah. Why not?”
Juventus still very much in the race for Ousmane Dembele
According to reports, Juventus have not given up hopes of signing Barcelona attacker Ousmane Dembele despite having lost out on the opportunity to sign him this summer. The Frenchman was linked with an exit after never really finding his feet at Barcelona following his big-money in 2017.
Manchester United were linked with Ousmane Dembele and were reportedly looking to sign him as late as the deadline day but talks over a move broke down. Juventus may have signed Federico Chiesa from Fiorentina but as per the report, that does not mean that they won't try to sign Ousmane Dembele.
Dembele has only two years remaining in his contract and that means that Juventus have a great chance to sign him next summer when Barcelona would also be looking to cash in on him.
