Barcelona outran Real Madrid to the La Liga title this season

Before the start of the campaign, both Real Madrid and Barcelona were the leading favorites to win the La Liga this season. Xavi's side, though, were the far superior team in the Spanish top flight. They were crowned champions with four games to go.

The Blaugrana have scored 85 points from their 34 matches so far and are leading Los Blancos by 14 points. They became champions with a 4-2 away win against Espanyol in the Catalan derby in their most recent match.

The trophy marked the club's second overall under Xavi and their first major one. While they lifted the Supercopa de Espana earlier in the season, the La Liga title has to be a sweeter achievement for the legendary midfielder.
