Kylian Mbappe reacts to broken nose with hilarious tweet after France’s Euro 2024 opening match win
Kylian Mbappe has reacted to suffering from a broken nose in France's 1-0 win against Austria in Euro 2024 on Monday night (June 17).
After getting through much of the game in which the 25-year-old failed to influence proceedings, the night was to get significantly worse. While going up for a header, Mbappe won the ball, but his face seemingly crashed into Kevin Danso's shoulder on the follow-through.
With blood spewing all over his face, the attacker received treatment before being replaced by former Arsenal man Olivier Giroud in the 90th minute. Seeing the funny side of things, Mbappe wrote on his X account (formerly Twitter):
"Any ideas for masks?"
It remains to be seen whether Mbappe will be fit to start his team's upcoming games in Group D. Following the win over Austria, manager Didier Deschamps said (via BBC Sport):
"He's not doing well. His nose got hit badly. We need to check it out but it seems quite complicated, which is really unfortunate for us."
"The medical staff are checking him out. I saw him on the massage table. He didn't get off lightly. It's still to be see and I cannot at this stage give you a precise answer."
Mbappe will be crucial to Frances' Euro 2024 campaign, having been in red hot form this past season. With Paris Saint-Germain, he scored 44 goals and bagged 10 assists in 48 matches across competitions.
Up next for Les Bleus is a huge group match against the Netherlands on Friday (June 21).
France manager Didier Deschamps prepared to 'fight' without Kylian Mbappe in next Euro 2024 game
France manager Didier Deschamps may be without Kylian Mbappe for his side's upcoming Euro 2024 match against the Netherlands. However, the French tactician is prepared to move ahead without his star player.
One would assume that the experienced Olivier Giroud would come in for the injured Mbappe. Speaking about whether the former Monaco man will be available against the Netherlands, Deschamps said (via BBC Sport):
"I'm not going to go into hypothesis but the French team with Kylian will always be stronger with him. If the new doesn't go along these lines then we will have to fight without him."
Giroud wouldn't be the worst replacement for Mbappe, although the former Chelsea striker is more of a target man. He's scored 57 goals for France and is the country's leading goalscorer.
