Kylian Mbappe’s old Instagram post after match against Cristiano Ronaldo in 2023 resurfaces ahead of Euro 2024 quarter-final face off
An old Instagram post from Kylian Mbappe about Cristiano Ronaldo has emerged ahead of Portugal facing France in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024. The post was made after both sides previously met and showed the World Cup winner smiling alongside the legendary striker.
The mutual admiration between both players is no secret, with the French captain a self-avowed fan of his Portuguese counterpart. Mbappe's caption on the post with Ronaldo therefore simply read :
"Idol."
Ronaldo is playing at his final Euro and is looking to claim the trophy on his last dance with the competition he has played at more than anyone else. However, France and his protege will prove a difficult obstacle to his aspirations.
Kylian Mbappe has had difficulty finding the back of the net for Les Bleus at the tournament, with only one strike to his name at Euro 2024. Cristiano Ronaldo has also had his troubles in the tournament, having his longest run without a goal at any of his six European Championship appearances.
France and Portugal will meet in Frankfurt in what promises to be an entertaining game for fans and neutrals alike on July 5.
Kylian Mbappe and Cristiano Ronaldo set for quarter-final clash at Euro 2024
Kylian Mbappe will face his Idol Cristiano Ronaldo in the quarter-finals of the ongoing Euro 2024 tournament in what promises to be an enthralling game. The tie will see two players with immense respect for each other go head to head in what could be a decisive game en route to the trophy.
Ronaldo heads into the game off a decent run of scoring form for his club but a barren spell for his country at Euro 2024. Despite scoring 44 goals and providing 13 assists in 45 games for Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Nassr, he has failed to find the net so far in Germany.
Kylian Mbappe has not fared much better but has opened his account for Les Bleus in the tournament with his spot kick against Poland in the group stage. He will be hoping to add to his 48 goals and 32 assists from 82 games for his nation.
The winner of the game play Spain or Germany in a blockbuster semi-final on July 9 in Munich. Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappe will both be keen to secure a place in the game at Munich and ultimately at the final in Berlin on July 14.
