Kylian Mbappe's old post on Cristiano Ronaldo resurfaces days after he was unveiled at Real Madrid
Real Madrid's blockbuster summer signing Kylian Mbappe's comments about Cristiano Ronaldo have resurfaced after the former was officially announced as a Los Blancos player.
The France international joined the Spanish giants on a free transfer this summer after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired. While at the Parc des Princes, the 25-year-old was supremely impressive, bagging 256 goals and 108 assists in 308 matches across competitions.
He will be looking to match that form, if not do better at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, Mbappe would have to do extremely well to match Ronaldo's numbers from the latter's time in the Spanish capital.
Surely, the former Monaco star will be looking for inspiration from the Portuguese sensation after having called him his idol back in 2020. He also declared Ronaldo the greatest player in the sport, thereby placing Lionel Messi behind him.
Ronaldo decided to join Real Madrid from Manchester United in the summer of 2009 for a reported €94 million. He spent eight years at the iconic club before departing for Juventus in 2017 on a reportedly whopping €117 million deal.
During his stay in Madrid, the 39-year-old striker made 438 appearances across competitions, bagging 450 goals and 131 assists. He won four UEFA Champions League trophies along with two La Liga titles., among other honors with Los Blancos.
Mbappe has yet to win the highest club competition in Europe but has given himself a great chance of doing so after joining the 15-time champions.
Kylian Mbappe pays homage to Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid presentation
Kylian Mbappe referenced Cristiano Ronaldo during his Real Madrid presentation ceremony. Towards the end of his speech, the Frenchman recreated Ronaldo's 'uno, dos, tres, Hala Madrid' chant that the latter did at his presentation.
After the ceremony was concluded, Mbappe revealed that this was indeed a nod to the Saudi Pro League forward. At his first press conference for the club, he said (via GOAL):
"Ending the presentation with uno, dos, tres, Hala Madrid was a nod to Cristiano Ronaldo. He is a friend who has made history at this club. He has always given me advice on the game and on the ability to stay connected to your passion."
Most recently, Mbappe was at Euro 2024, where his France team knocked Portugal out of the competition in the quarter-final on penalties. Les Bleus themselves suffered a final-four elimination at the hands of eventual winners Spain.
