Kylian Mbappe will not be allowed to wear tricolor France mask at Euro 2024 due to UEFA regulations
Kylian Mbappe will not be allowed to wear a tricolor France mask at Euro 2024 after suffering from a broken nose in his country's first game.
While the attacker influenced his side's only goal in their 1-0 win against Austria on June 17, he ended the match with an unfortunate injury. After going up for a header late into the match, Mbappe collided with Austria defender Kevin Danso's shoulder, leading to a broken nose.
With uncertainty over when Mbappe will return to action for France, it is expected that he will sport protective gear when he takes to the pitch. As per GOAL, Real Madrid's blockbuster signing wore a tricolor mask representing the shades of his country this week in training.
However, he will not be allowed to do so when Les Bleus face the Netherlands on Friday (June 21). Article 42 of the UEFA equipment regulations reads:
"Medical equipment worn on the playing field must be of a single color and must not allow the team or manufacturer to be identified."
With this rule in place, Mbappe will have to turn to a more simple mask when he plays for the French. According to a report from RMC Sport, Mbappe was also shown plain masks to wear at Euro 2024, which are to be validated by the French Football Federation.
It remains to be seen whether Mbappe will feature for his team in the next game. If he doesn't, Olivier Giroud may be used down the middle.
France manager Didier Deschamps provides positive update on Kylian Mbappe
France manager Didier Deschamps has stated that Kylian Mbappe is moving in the right direction after suffering a broken nose in his country's Euro 2024 match against Austria.
The French tactician confirmed that the former Monaco man took part in non-contact exercises on Wednesday (June 19). Speaking ahead of the game against the Netherlands, Deschamps said (via The Guardian):
"I can confirm that Kylian is feeling better. Everything is going in the right direction after this major shock he had, with the consequences, of course."
"Yesterday (Wednesday), he was able to go out and do some activities. It is the same case tonight. It has evolved in the right direction to ensure that he can be available tomorrow."
Mbappe is a crucial player in the France lineup. To date, he's made 80 appearances across competitions for Les Bleus, scoring 47 goals and bagging 34 assists.
