La Liga approve Barcelona's plan to sign Cristiano Ronaldo's former teammate on free transfer - Reports

Barcelona have been on the lookout for a goalkeeper ever since Marc-Andre ter Stegen suffered a serious knee injury. They had seemingly confirmed Wojciech Szczesny as their new shotstopper, but the formalities were taking time due to some technical problems with La Liga.

However, as per latest reports from Spanish journalist Ramon Fuentes, Barcelona have received the go-ahead from the league authorities to sign the Polish goalkeeper.

Notably, Szczesny, who shared the dressing room with Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus, announced his retirement some time ago. In order to help the Catalan giants, the goalkeeper has come out of retirement and will soon be announced officially by the club.

Ter Stegen suffered a knee injury during the match against Villarreal. While trying to collect a high ball, he had an awkward fall to the ground. He is set to undergo surgery on Monday afternoon.

Szczesny will now become the second Polish footballer in the current Barcelona set-up, after Robert Lewandowski. As per Polish outlet Meczyki, he will fly to Barcelona on Monday to complete his medicals. His deal will run until the end of the season.

Moreoever, Szczesny is expected to be in the stands for Barcelona's Champions League game against Young Boys.
