LaLiga release statement after Real Madrid fans target Barcelona star Lamine Yamal with racist chants
LaLiga have released a statement after Barcelona star Lamine Yamal was reportedly subjected to racist chants by Real Madrid fans during the recent El Clasico. The league have affirmed that they will take action against the perpetrators.
Hansi Flick's Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 4-0 in the league encounter on Saturday, October 26, at Santiago Bernabeu. Robert Lewandowski broke the deadlock in the second half (54') and soon doubled Blaugrana's lead (56') with a header.
Spanish forward Lamine Yamal scored Barca's third goal of the match in the 77th minute, assisted by Raphinha. The Brazilian then added his name to the scoresheet just seven minutes later to pile further misery on Los Blancos.
However, during the match, racist gestures and chants were directed at Barcelona players, especially Lamine Yamal. Here is a video (via Football Espana):
LaLiga were quick to address the issue and released an official statement regarding the unacceptable behaviour of fans at Santiago Bernabeu. The statement read (via The Madrid Zone):
"Regarding the events that occurred during the Real Madrid CF - FC Barcelona match, where intolerable racist behaviour was observed, La Liga will immediately report the racist insults and gestures directed at FC Barcelona players to the Hate Crime Unit of the National Police's Information Brigade, and will inform the Coordinating Chamber Prosecutor of the Hate Crimes and Discrimination Unit in the State Attorney General's Office."
Los Blancos star Vinicius Jr has also been a victim of racist abuse on multiple occasions in the league.
