“Learn to respect women” - Ilkay Gundogan’s wife Sara slams Instagram page for trolling her over mispronouncing husband’s name

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan's wife, Sara Arfaoui, has slammed an Instagram page mocking her mispronunciation of her husband's name. A video has gone viral of the model and actress pronouncing the German midfielder's name wrong.

In the same clip, the former Barcelona star can be spotted correcting his wife and letting fans know the right way of saying his name. He said:

"If you want to say it correctly, this is the way of saying it correctly. Not many people do though."

Arfaoui interjects and adds:

"I also don't say it correctly. Me too, I don't say it correctly."

An Instagram handle called 'sportsvlogs11' then posted the video on their feed and wrote at the start of the caption:

"Imagine your wife doesn’t know how to pronounce your name."

Arfaoui has seemingly not taken well to this post and left her thoughts in the comments section. She wrote:

"Im Italian so is difficult to say. I speak 6 languages feel deeply sad to see how much hate from a simple joke and cultural difference .. wishing all the best and learn to respect women."

According to The Sun, the couple met in 2021 and announced their engagement in December that year. The pair married in May 2022 at a registry office in Denmark.

Gundogan is currently with the rest of his Manchester City squad, who are looking to bounce back from a disappointing 1-1 draw with Newcastle United in the league. They next face Fulham at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday (October 5).

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has backed Ilkay Gundogan to come good as the Premier League season goes on. The German decided to move back to the Etihad from Barcelona this summer after spending a year at Camp Nou.

However, since returning, he's made just three starts in the English top-flight and one in the Champions League. Calling for patience with the 33-year-old, Guardiola said (via Standard):

"It will take time. He doesn't make a pre-season and needs to (get to) the rhythm- but he gives you something special but of course he will take it (time)."

Some worries over Gundogan's form may have been put to bed after he found the net in Manchester City's 4-0 win against Slovan Bratislava on Tuesday (October 1). He started the tie and played the full 90.
