Lionel Messi and wife Antonela Roccuzzo watch son Thiago in Inter Miami U13s match after latest win over Toronto

Lionel Messi, his wife Antonela Roccuzzo, and their two younger sons, Mateo and Ciro Messi, watched their eldest son Thiago's latest U13 fixture for the Inter Miami academy. Messi created history by leading the Herons to win the Supporters' Sheild after a 3-2 victory over Columbus Crew in the MLS, before securing a 1-0 win over Toronto in the league on October 5.

On October 6, Antonela Roccuzzo took to Instagram to share two photos and a short clip from their recent outing to watch Thiago play. Messi featured in the images with his family and his signature pot of mate tea. The caption read (translated from Spanish via Instagram):

"Cheering on Thiagui today."

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi is next set to represent Argentina in their World Cup qualifier games against Venezuela (October 10) and Bolivia (October 15). He will then feature in Inter Miami's last MLS regular season fixture against New England Revolution (October 19).

The Argentine will then lead the Herons in the MLS play-offs and work towards winning the league title for the first time in the club's history. Messi has already led Inter Miami to two trophies since his arrival - the 2023 Leagues Cup and 2024 Supporters' Shield. The former marked the first piece of silverware in the MLS side's history.

In a June 2024 interview with Marcelo Tinelli for America TV, Lionel Messi said his three sons have different personalities. Speaking about his eldest son, Thiago, Messi said (via Hola):

"Thiago is more sensitive and takes it worse if you say something bad to him. But now that he is older, he understands and plays a lot more. He himself realizes or feels when he does something right or wrong and he looks for me to talk and comment."

Lionel Messi then spoke about his second-born, Mateo, and added:

"You can tell him anything. Besides, he doesn't give a damn what I say to him, whether it's right or wrong, he takes it the same way."

Finally, the Argentine added his youngest son Ciro is the closest to him in personality. Messi added that he discusses the same with his wife Antonela, and concluded:

"Ciro is very similar to me in character. What's more, we talk a lot about it with Antonela, who has more and more things of my character. I'm strange too... I have my crazy things, my moments; sometimes they're all together playing and he (Ciro) doesn't participate because he doesn't care what they're playing or he's in something else."

Lionel Messi also stated that he often takes his children to the club to play football, where they are joined by his teammate and close friend Luis Suarez's children. Their children are more or less of the same age, making it easier for them to be friends.
