Liverpool among clubs keeping tabs on PL superstar with £85m release clause - Reports

Premier League side Liverpool are among the clubs monitoring the current performances of Mohammed Kudus, as per a report from Sami Mokbel of The Daily Mail. The Ghanaian is currently plying his trade for West Ham United in the same domestic league.

Kudus is a versatile footballer, who can play on both the wings and even as an attacking midfielder. This season, however, he has been mostly used as a left winger by manager Julen Lopetegui. The report from Sami Mokbel states that Kudus has a £85m release clause next summer.

Liverpool, meanwhile, don't have any shortage of wingers. On one flank, they have Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo. On the other, they have the prowess of Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah. However, Salah's contract at Liverpool comes to an end next summer. The Anfield-based outfit notably are yet to offer him an extension or a new contract.

At such a juncture, Liverpool showing interest for Mohammed Kudus seems convincing. However, Kudus, who scored 27 goals and provided 12 assists in 87 appearances for Ajax, has not been in the best of forms in recent times.

A total three goal contributions this season (two goals, one assist) across the Premier League and Carabao Cup suggest his acquisition might not be an upgrade to that of Salah. The Egyptian winger, on the other hand, has registered 20 goal contributions already in 17 matches across the domestic league, Carabao Cup and UEFA Champions League this season.

Mohamed Salah has been key to Liverpool's success in Premier League campaign this season

Speaking of the Premier League, Liverpool currently sit at the pole position with 28 points from 11 fixtures. A huge credit for this goes to not only new manager Arne Slot but also Mohamed Salah.

Salah is currently the joint second-highest goal-scorer (8) in the Premier League with Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo and Nottingham Forest's Chris Wood. Manchester City's Erling Haaland is, meanwhile, leading the charts with 12 goals.

Salah has not only scored for his side, but has also helped his teammates get goals to their name. He currently sits second in the assists chart too, with six to boast for. Only Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka has overtaken Salah, that too with just one extra assist - a total of seven.

There have not been any reports claiming the club have held discussions with Salah over a new contract. But his impact on the pitch might compel them to take such a decision. The Anfield-based club would never want to let go their superstar as a free agent, specially after such stellar performances in the current campaign.
