"Liverpool have been scouting the player for a long time" - Fabrizio Romano claims Reds are interested in signing Euro 2024 star

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool have been scouting England's Euro 2024 star Marc Guehi for a while. Crystal Palace's Guehi is set to start for the Three Lions in the Euro 2024 final against Spain on Sunday, July 14.

England and Spain are set to lock horns at the Olympiastadion in Berlin and Guehi could play a key role for Gareth Southgate's side as they look to bring Euro 2024 home.

Guehi has been important for England during the European Championships, starting five of their six matches. He only missed the quarter-final against Switzerland due to suspension. Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, said (via The Boot Room):

"I can tell you my friend that Liverpool have been scouting the player for a long time. He's a player they like, for sure."

Romano, though, added that the Reds are not in active negotiation for Guehi at the moment as the situation is quiet during Euro 2024. While the transfer expert acknowledged the Merseysiders' interest, he claimed a bid is a different situation.

Arne Slot is now in charge of the Anfield club and reinforcing the defense is one of his main aims. Joe Matip has left the club while Virgil van Dijk is approaching his mid-30s.

Guehi, now a full-time England international, could be a great addition to the team. However, he could cost as much as £60 million in the transfer market. Guehi made 29 appearances for Crystal Palace during the 2023-24 season, helping them keep eight clean sheets.

Liverpool target Marc Guehi's Euro 2024 stats

Marc Guehi has been thoroughly impressive for England during Euro 2024. Apart from his defending, Guehi has also shown the ability to play the ball out of the back.

He has played the full games in all of the five matches he has played, amassing a total game time of 480 minutes (excluding injury times). The 24-year-old has made six tackles and recovered 40 balls. Guehi also boasts an impressive passing accuracy of 93.6%.

He has covered a total distance of 52.09 km and has hit a top speed of 32.8 km/hour. All around, the defender boasts impressive numbers, justifying a top club like Liverpool's interest in him.
