Liverpool star Darwin Nunez appears to like social media post asking him to move to UCL rivals
Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez has liked a social media post linking him with a move to fellow Champions League club AC Milan. Nunez, who has struggled to secure regular playing time under new manager Arne Slot, has been linked with a potential transfer to the Italian giants during the January window.
The Uruguayan forward joined the Reds in 2022, following his record £85 million move from Benfica. However, he has fallen short of the lofty expectations and is currently behind Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz in Slot’s pecking order.
AC Milan TMN earlier reported that the club had opened discussions with Liverpool about a half-season loan deal, which would include an obligation to buy in the summer for £37.4 million. This speculation will certainly gain further traction after Nunez liked an Instagram story featuring him in an AC Milan shirt.
Although Milan remain heavily linked with Darwin Nunez, a contrasting report from the Mail’s Simon Jones suggests that Liverpool have not received any communication from the Italian club regarding a potential transfer.
Meanwhile, Arne Slot himself has expressed confidence in the forward’s ability to influence games.
“For me, he has impact. If you only look at goals, he hasn’t scored the amount of goals that he wants to score, or we want a number nine to score, but he does have impact in his work-rate. He’s part of a team that scores a lot of goals and is winning a lot,” he said (via BBC)
Liverpool are in fine form and currently sitting atop the Premier League standings. They hold a six-point lead over second-placed Arsenal, who have played one more game than the Reds.
Liverpool legend shares his thoughts on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s potential exit
While Nunez has been linked with a transfer, multiple reports suggest that Liverpool’s vice-captain, Trent Alexander-Arnold, could be heading to Real Madrid next summer. The full-back’s contract expires at the end of the season, allowing him to begin negotiations with other clubs this month.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, in a post on the social media platform X, emphasized that the club and its players should remain focused on winning the Premier League, where they currently hold a commanding lead.
"The most important thing for @LFC in 2025 is winning the #PremierLeague. No one’s contract or future should come in the way of that! I love Trent as a lad & a player, but his team would’ve told Real Madrid to bid & also would’ve known LFC would turn it down. It’s to try & cover themselves when he leaves for free. Again it’s something the club/fans don’t need with a huge game coming up,” he tweeted.
The Reds are gearing up for a challenging run of fixtures this month, beginning with a crucial clash against Manchester United at Anfield on January 5. They will then travel to London to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup semi-finals on January 8.
