Liverpool veteran rejects contract renewal offer from Reds, set to join La Liga club as free agent - Reports

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian has rejected a contract renewal offer from the Reds and is set to join La Liga club Real Betis as a free agent. The 37-year-old goalkeeper came to Anfield in 2019 after a six-year spell at West Ham United.

The Spaniard has already signed a contract valid up to June 2026 with his boyhood club Real Betis, as per Romano. Adrian rose through the ranks at Betis, but couldn't break into the first team and joined West Ham in 2013.

Liverpool made a post on their official X (formerly Twitter) account announcing Adrian's departure, which read:

"Adrian departs Liverpool this summer having made a valuable contribution to the club’s successes across his five years at Anfield. A popular figure among teammates and staff alike, Adrian leaves the Reds with the best wishes of everybody at the club. Thank you for everything, @AdriSanMiguel"

During his time at Anfield, Adrian San Miguel maintained seven clean sheets and conceded 36 goals in 26 appearances across all competitions. He won the 2019–20 Premier League, the 2024 EFL Cup, the 2019-20 UEFA Super Cup, and the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup with the Reds.


Former Liverpool star Thiago Alcantara reportedly set to retire from professional football

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that former Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara is set to retire from professional football after he parted ways with the Reds as a free agent last month.

The 33-year-old midfielder arrived at Anfield in 2020 after spending seven years at Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich. He won the 2021–22 FA Cup, and the 2022 FA Community Shield during his tenure at the Reds.

The Spanish midfielder played just five minutes last season due to multiple injury issues and his contract with the Reds expired on June 30. Fabrizio Romano recently posted on X:

"Thiago Alcantara has decided to retire from professional football. Former Barça, Bayern, Liverpool and Spain player has made his decision. Thiago’s passion and love for the game continues as he’s ready for new chapter in football after few months planning for it."

No official statement has been made by Thiago Alcantara as of yet.
