"Looks absolutely broken" - Chelsea fans claim 'careless' 23-year-old is the 'worst defender on earth' after 1-4 Celtic loss
Chelsea fans blasted Benoit Badiashile on X after he had a poor performance in their 1-4 defeat to Celtic. The two sides engaged in a pre-season friendly at the Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday, July 27.
Matt O'Riley broke the deadlock in the 19th minute, giving Celtic the lead. Kyogo Furuhashi doubled their advantage 14 minutes later, tapping home following a short corner.
The Blues looked more solid in the second half of the game but Badiashile made a massive error, conceding possession to Luis Palma. The latter scored to make it 3-0 in the 76th minute before Michael Johnston added a fourth three minutes later to add to Chelsea's misery.
Christopher Nkunku netted a late penalty in the 89th minute, as the Blues slumped to a 1-4 loss. However, many fans took to social media to vent their fury at Badiashile for his performance. The 23-year-old centre-back was given a rating of just 4.5 by FotMob after making an error leading to Celtic's third goal.
One fan reacted by posting:
"Badiashile is the worst defender on earth."
Another fan typed:
"All preseason (and all of last season) Badiashile just gave the ball right to the opposition. He looks absolutely broken."
Other reactions can be viewed below:
"Chelsea wants to sell Chalobah but will rather keep Badiashile & Disasi??? I’m ready for next season," one fan tweeted.
"Badiashile is so careless with his passing. He can pass the ball, he has that ability but he needs to relax himself and be calm before passing. Looks like he passes at every first though and reaction," another added.
"Maresca is not to be taken seriously. He feels Badiashile is better than Trevor Chalobah?" one fan pointed out.
"Keeping Badiashile and getting rid of Chalobah tells you everything you need to know about this incompetent board," another posted.
"Badiashile needs to leave asap," another chimed in.
How did Chelsea fare in their 1-4 loss to Celtic?
Enzo Maresca was left still looking for his first win as Chelsea head coach after Celtic defeated the Blues 4-1 in their pre-season friendly. They had also been held to a 2-2 draw against Wrexham earlier this week. Let's take a look at the stats to see how they fared against Celtic:
The Blues dominated possession with 57 percent of the ball, attempting 479 passes with an accuracy of 88 percent. Meanwhile, Celtic had 43 percent possession, attempting 367 passes with an accuracy of 85 percent.
It was an open-ended game with both sides having numerous chances to score. Chelsea had 23 shots with 10 being on target, however, Celtic were the more clinical team on the day - mustering 14 shots in total with 11 being on target.
