“‘Lucky Arsenal’ is a nice tag to have” - Martin Keown lavishes praise on Gunners star after 4-2 win

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown heaped praise on Leandro Trossard after the Gunners' 4-2 win against Leicester City on Saturday, September 28. He reckons that Trossard was a good signing for Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta’s men returned to winning ways in the league after a 2-2 draw against Manchester City away last weekend. They secured a nervy victory against the Foxes at the Emirates to continue their unbeaten start of the season.

Having conceded a last-gasp equalizer at the Etihad last weekend, Arsenal looked determined to make a fast start against Leicester. Their pressure paid dividends in the 20th minute as Jurrien Timber’s pass into the 18-yard box found Garbiel Martinelli. He tucked it into the bottom corner to give the Gunners the lead.

On the stroke of the first half, the Gunners deservedly doubled their tally as Leandro Trossard sent the ball into the far post from Martinelli’s cutback. In a dramatic turn of events, Leicester restored parity in the second half. defender James Justin reduced the deficit two minutes into the second half and leveled the scoreline in the 63rd minute.

It looked as though the spoils were going to be shared until Trossard’s effort cannoned off Wilfried Ndidi in the 94th minute to restore Arsenal’s lead. Kai Havertz put the game to bed in the 99th minute with a fortuitous close-range finish.

After the match, Martin Keown gushed over Trossard’s performance, saying he was worth every penny. He told BBC Sports:

“What a buy Leandro Trossard was! Worth every penny. A perfect day if it finishes like this. Arsenal score from a set-piece – who’d believe it? Arsenal just kept believing. It is a lucky goal and ‘lucky Arsenal’ is a nice tag to have.”

Trossard moved to the Emirates from Brighton & Hove Albion in January 2023. So far, he has scored 20 goals and provided 12 assists for the Gunners in 75 appearances across competitions.

Leandro Trossard said Arsenal played a good game against Leicester City

The Gunners left it late to secure a dramatic 4-2 victory over Leicester on Saturday. The Foxes gave the host a run for their money as they pushed them to stoppage time with the score at 2-2. However, late goals from a Wilfried Ndidi own goal and Kai Havertz gave Arteta’s men all three points.

After the match, Trossard gave his assessment of his side’s performance, telling the club’s website:

“It was just relief! I had some good opportunities and when the ball doesn’t go in, you need to keep believing and believing. It was great that the ball went in and gave us the lead again. Credit to the boys, everyone kept believing going forward and pushing to create chances. That’s what we need – if it doesn’t go your way at that point, you need to keep pushing and that’s what we did. In the end, the luck was on our side.
“Overall, I think we played a very good game to go 2-0 up at half-time and then the goals we conceded today, they were a bit too easy. It shows how you need to push for the other goals – we had some great chances, and their goalkeeper made some great saves as well but it’s nice to get those two goals at the end to get the win.”

The Gunners will next face Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the Emirates in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, October 1.
