Luis Suarez reacts after Darwin Nunez nets incredible goal to get off the mark with Liverpool this season

Inter Miami star Luis Suarez reacted on social media after his compatriot and Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez scored his first goal of the season. The forward also started his first match of the season against Bournemouth on September 21, as the Reds won 3-0 at Anfield.

Nunez has struggled to get into the team under new head coach Arne Slot. In their first match of the season against Ipswich, he did not even come on as a substitute. In later games, he has been used sparingly in the latter part of games, including in their Champions League win over AC Milan.

However, Nunez got the opportunity to start against Bournemouth, and he took that chance with aplomb, scoring a curler from distance. The game was ruthlessly dominated by Liverpool, with Luis Diaz scoring a quick-fire brace, netting in the 26th and 28th minute to put the Cherries to the sword.

Nunez completed the rout, thanks to an assist from Mohamed Salah. The forward slipped the ball onto his left foot at the corner of the area to beat his marker, before driving a delightful curler into the inside of the goal. His effort was remarkable enough to catch the eye of Luis Suarez, who reacted with an emoji on X:

Darwin Nunez stuns Liverpool head coach Arne Slot with stunning strike

Liverpool boss Arne Slot was impressed with the quality of Darwin Nunez's finishing, as he spoke about the striker after the game. Slot notably handed Nunez his first start of the season, and he took the opportunity with both hands.

Slot discussed his thoughts with the press, as the Dutch tactician said (via BBC):

"My first instinct when he shot was, 'why does he shoot?'. I would have said, 'why don't you keep on dribbling?'. He made the ball free and I think the defender was on the ground.
"But then it was a fraction of a second later when I saw the ball go in off the post. Then I was like, 'OK, maybe you are a better football player than I was in the past'."

The head coach also praised Nunez for helping Liverpool keep a clean sheet:

"Of course, I play a striker because I like him to score goals – but it also helps if you keep a clean sheet. [In] keeping a clean sheet, Darwin was also involved."

Nunez will hope he can continue to impress for Liverpool, having gotten off the mark this season.
