Luka Modric sends message to Jude Bellingham after Real Madrid lift UEFA Super Cup
Real Madrid legend Luka Modric hailed Jude Bellingham after their UEFA Super Cup victory. They beat Atalanta 2-0 at the National Stadium Warsaw on Wednesday, August 14.
Federico Valverde opened the scoring in the 59th minute with a tap-in after some sensational work from Vinicius. Kylian Mbappe then got his first goal for the club in the 68th minute via an assist from Bellingham. Atalanta failed to threaten the Madrid defense much after that and Los Blancos won their fourth trophy in 2024.
Jude Bellingham, who played almost the entire match was declared the Player of the Match for his incredible performance. He completed 44/49 passes, made three key passes, created two big chances, completed 5/6 dribbles, and attempted five shots as well. He was excellent defensively as well, winning 13/20 duels, making two interceptions and two tackles, and blocking one shot.
After the game, Bellingham shared a post on Instagram with the caption:
“Europa Supercopa Campeones, start as we mean to go on.”
His Real Madrid teammate and captain, Luka Modric, commented:
"What a player!"
Bellingham arrived at Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund last summer and had an exceptional debut season. He contributed 23 goals and 13 assists in 42 games across competitions, helping them win three trophies. He's now added to the collection this season already with the UEFA Super Cup.
Carlo Ancelotti on becoming joint-most decorated Real Madrid manager
With Los Blancos' UEFA Super Cup win over Atalanta, Carlo Ancelotti has now won 14 trophies as the club's manager. He equaled the legendary Miguel Munoz's record for most trophies won as a Real Madrid manager.
When asked about it after the game, Ancelotti said (via Managing Madrid):
“It is an honour and a privilege to live these nights here, suffering, fighting and winning too. I am very happy. It is an honour to coach this team. We did well.
"Atalanta played very well. They were very strong in their duels. When the game opened up a bit, we were able to show our quality. It was not an easy game. Atalanta played very well.”
Ancelotti won his first trophy at Real Madrid in 2014, winning the Copa del Rey in April by beating Barcelona in the final.
Los Blancos still have six more competitions to compete in this season after the UEFA Super Cup. They are UEFA Champions League, La Liga, Copa del Rey, Supercopa de Espana, FIFA Club World Cup, and Intercontinental Cup.
