Manchester City confident star man will sign new deal that will make him highest earner in the PL: Reports

Manchester City are reportedly looking to hand Erling Haaland a new contract which would make him the Premier League’s highest earner. According to the Mirror, the Cityzens are confident that the Norwegian striker will sign the extension.

Haaland has been a huge success at Manchester City since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund for a reported £51.3million in 2022. In his debut season at the Etihad, the 24-year-old recorded 52 goals and nine assists in 53 games across competitions. His contributions in the final third helped the club secure a historic continental treble.

The Norwegian striker continued his goal-scoring heroics in the 2023-24 season, scoring 38 goals and providing five assists in 44 games to help the Cityzens secure a fourth consecutive league title. In 16 games across competitions this season, Haaland has already scored 15 goals.

According to the Mirror (via Transfer News Live on X), Manchester City are keen to hand Haaland a new contract. His current contract does not expire until 2027, but the league champions are looking to secure his future beyond 2027.

The report adds that the new deal will make the former Borussia Dortmund striker the highest earner in the Premier League. Haaland is currently one of the top earners in the league. According to Capology (via GiveMeSport), he earns £375,000 per week, making him the second-highest earner in the league, only behind teammate Kevin De Bruyne.

Consequentially, a new deal for Haaland will fend off interest from other top clubs around Europe who could be looking to rope in the Manchester City star in the future.

Manchester City’s current poor run of form

Manchester City are currently experiencing one of their worst periods under Pep Guardiola. For the first time under the Spanish manager, the defending league champions have lost four consecutive games.

The run started with a 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup, which was followed by a 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League. The team then suffered a surprising 4-1 loss to Sporting CP in the UEFA Champions League. In their last fixture before the November international break, they experienced another setback, losing 2-1 to Brighton & Hove Albion in the league.

City's next match will be at home against Tottenham in the league on Saturday, November 23. Guardiola's men have often struggled against Spurs and will be hoping to end their run of poor form on Saturday.
