Manchester City star Ederson releases statement amid rumors of rift with teammate and recent exit links
Ederson has hit out at reports that he was not happy with the praise his Manchester City teammate Stefan Ortega received. The Brazilian goalkeeper added that his injury towards the end of last season was one of the most difficult times of his career as he missed key matches and also the Copa America.
Posting on his Instagram story, Ederson stated that everything posted by The Athletic was false. He added that his main focus was on preparing for the new season. He wrote:
"Clarifying that the note published by the portal The Athletic, yesterday, referring to the supposed dissatisfaction on my part in relation to a co-worker. It's totally false. The supposed day reported was, without a doubt, one of the most difficult days of my career when I suffered a fracture that prevented me from competing in the final stretch of the season and, consequently, also from representing my country in the Copa America. At the time of the injury, my thoughts were just to continue in the match, defending City in the fight for the title, but the emotion of the match would be greater than the reality, and fatally, I would not be able to continue as I would have liked due to the damage it caused, completely blocking my field of vision. I remain focused on preparing for the season."
Ederson has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League this season. He was in talks with Al-Nassr but they signed his compatriot Bento, and that has seen Al-Ittihad jump into the race to sign the Manchester City star.
Manchester City want to keep Ederson this summer
Pep Guardiola has admitted there is a possibility of Ederson leaving Manchester City this summer. However, the Spanish manager added that he wanted the Brazilian to stay.
"I don't know – he has to see maybe now other options. Of course I'd like him to stay. Depends now the clubs. I don't know the situation. No contact in the last days. A question of training and being with us until the transfer window finishes and we see what happens," Guardiola said.
Ederson was valued at £60 million by Manchester City when Al-Nassr made their move but the Saudi Pro League side thought the asking price was too high and moved on.
