Manchester City star Erling Haaland responds to Euro 2024 jibe from Marc Cucurella after scoring against Chelsea in 2-0 win
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland took a dig at Chelsea's Marc Cucurella for his Euro 2024 dig aimed at the striker after scoring in City's 2-0 victory over the Blues in the Premier League on Sunday (August 19).
Haaland called the Chelsea star a "funny man". The striker seemed amused by the Spaniard's infamous dig at him in his Euro 2024 chant, especially as the defender had asked for Haaland's shirt last season.
"Well, Cucurella is a funny man. Last season he asked for my shirt … and this summer he sings a song about me," the striker said.
Haaland was referring to Marc Cucurella's infamous chant that the defender sang during Spain's Euro 2024 victory celebrations. The defender's song featured a chant of Haaland's name and a cheeky dig at the Manchester City striker.
"Cucu cucu-rella, he eats paella, Cucu cucu-rella he drinks Estrella, Haaland you’d better tremble because Cucurella is coming!,” the lyrics said.
Against Chelsea, Erling Haaland scored the first goal for the Sky Blues in their 2-0 win. Coincidentally, the Norwegian dribbled past the Euro 2024 winner right before depositing the ball in Chelsea's net in the 18th minute.
Erling Haaland refuses to help Marc Cucurella during Man City's 2-0 win over Chelsea
During Man City's clash against Chelsea on Sunday (August 18), Erling Haaland supposedly refused to help Cucurella despite the Spaniard asking for his hand to get over a cramp. Clips and images of the likely incident went viral on social media.
The Spaniard was subbed off in the 80th minute after a mediocre performance. With a 7.0 Sofascore rating, the defender made three clearances and blocked one shot with a 89% passing accuracy. He lost possession 11 times during the game.
In a key moment of the game, Jeremy Doku took possession of the ball and gave an impressive pass to Bernardo Silva in the box. Silva passed on to Erling Haaland, who dribbled past the Spanish defender and deposited the ball in the Blues' net with an impressive finish.
Manchester City scored once again, in the 84th minute as Mateo Kovacic dribbed past Chelsea's defence and shot into the net from right outside the box to confirm the win.
