Manchester United agree deal to sign Matthijs de Ligt in double transfer raid as details of fee and contract length emerge in report

Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement with Bayern Munich to sign defender Matthijs de Ligt on a five-year contract with an option to extend it for another year. Furthermore, Bayern have also accepted a £20 million (including add-ons) bid from United for full-back Noussair Mazraoui,

According to the report by David Ornstein, the former Ajax defender will join the Old Trafford club for a fee of £43m and will soon undergo a medical. The Dutch defender has been linked with United since January.

With Raphael Varane's departure and with Harry Maguire's best days arguably behind him, De Ligt's presence will add much-needed strength to United's defense.

However, Mazraoui's arrival at Manchester United depends on whether they're able to sell Aaron Wan-Bissaka. West Ham United have reportedly offered The Red Devils £15m for the full-back with discussions ongoing about the length of his deal.

The Englishman will reportedly undergo a medical on Sunday or Monday while his exit formalities are currently underway. The 26-year-old joined the red side of Manchester from Crystal Palace in 2019 and has gone on to appear in 190 games.

Interestingly, both De Ligt and Mazrouai played under United manager Erik ten Hag during their time with Ajax. The former, who can play as a left-back, has entered the final year of his contract with the Bavarians.

In addition to adding strength to his defence, Ten Hag is also keen on reuniting with former players as fans have seen him do with Andre Onana, Lisandro Martinez and Antony.

The reports of their signings come days after Manchester United confirmed the signing of Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee for a combined fee of £88m.

Manchester United to take on Manchester City for the Community Shield

The cross-city rivals will face off for the Community Shield trophy on Saturday, August 10.

The arch-rivals also faced off in the final of the FA Cup, in which United emerged victorious. The Red Devils beat the Cityzens 2-1 to salvage their otherwise harrowing season.

Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo scored for United while Jeremy Doku scored the lone goal for City. Interestingly, The Red Devils had lost the FA Cup final to City in 2023 by the same margin.

Following their FA Cup win, Manchester United qualified for the UEFA Europa League despite finishing eighth in the Premier League last season.
