Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag provides Tyrell Malacia fitness update
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has provided a fitness update on Tyrell Malacia. The left-back has been out of action since May 2023 and was initially expected to return in January 2024.
However, he suffered a setback in recovery, pushing his possible return date further. United signed Sergio Reguilon on loan but ended it early as they expected Malacia to return.
Reguilon left and Ten Hag was forced to scratch his head due to lack of defensive options. The Dutch manager has now revealed that he expects Malacia to return in two months. He said (via talkSPORT):
"He is now in a good place but he is not here [pre-season] because I only took players who could play games or be available for team training. He is not that far, but he is now in a progress situation."
Ten Hag further added:
"At a relatively short notice, he can again return into team training and then into team performance in games. I think it'd be possible [for him to return] in two months."
Tyrell Malacia, 24, signed for Manchester United from Feyenoord in the summer of 2022. He has since made 39 appearances for United across competitions. Malacia was out of action for the entirety of the 2023-24 season.
Manchester United want to sign Bayern Munich duo: Reports
According to The Athletic, Manchester United have submitted a double bid for Bayern Munich stars Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui. United have reportedly reached an agreement with Mazraoui but are yet to strike a deal with Bayern.
West Ham agreed on a deal worth £12.7 million and £3.4 million in add-ons with Bayern for Mazraoui but the player rejected the move. He is reportedly waiting for United to come and get him.
Both De Ligt and Mazraoui are managed by agent Rafaela Pimenta. As per reports, Pimenta's camp is bemused by Bayern's demand for a higher fee for selling the players.
