Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes sends inspiring message to Kobbie Mainoo after Euro 2024 final heartbreak

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes shared an inspiring message for Kobbie Mainoo following England's defeat in the Euro 2024 final to Spain. Sunday's encounter (July 14) saw The Three Lions succumb to a 2-1 defeat, marking their second consecutive loss in the final of the Euros.

Mainoo, who wasn't favored in the starting XI at the start of the tournament, became a crucial component for England as the competition progressed. With the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Gallagher failing to lock down the No. 8 role, the Red Devils youngster did.

He started in the final for Gareth Southgate's team but failed to create a real impact in the game. However, Mainoo was devastated after the defeat and wrote on his Instagram account:

"Devastated to fall short but proud and grateful to compete in my first major international tournament for my country. We will be back."

Ahead of the Euro 2024 final, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand explained why Kobbie Mainoo is a special talent.

The 19-year-old enjoyed his breakthrough 2023-24 season with the Red Devils, making 35 appearances across competitions, bagging five goals and three assists. In his column for BBC Sport, Ferdinand wrote about the teenager:

"As well as his movement, there's his decision making and the pace of his passing, plus the way he always seems to be in control and the way he handles everything that is thrown at him despite only being 19."
"The best part of his game, though, is that he is prepared to wait," he added.

Going into the new season, Mainoo will be the favorite to start in the base of the Manchester United midfield. Casemiro would likely play beside him if the former Real Madrid man remains at Old Trafford beyond the summer.
