Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe wanted another manager before deciding to appoint Ruben Amorim: Reports
According to a report by SPORTbible, Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe wanted to hire another manager before deciding on Ruben Amorim. Following Erik ten Hag's dismissal, Amorim is tipped to replace the Dutchman at Old Trafford.
The report suggests that the United co-owner initially wanted a homegrown manager or a manager with Premier League experience before relenting and moving for the Sporting CP boss.
The 39-year-old Portuguese is one of the most highly-rated managers in football at the moment. He has helped Sporting to two Portuguese league titles and averaged an impressive 2.28 points per game in his four years at the Lisbon-based giants.
According to the report, Ruben Amorim beat Marco Silva, Thomas Frank, and former Barcelona boss Xavi to become the favorite to land the Manchester United job. He is expected to take the reigns at the club during the international break.
Manchester United warned about FFP implications ahead of Ruben Amorim's appointment - Reports
According to a report by A Bola via SPORTbible, Manchester United have been handed an FFP warning ahead of their imminent signing of Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese manager is expected to replace Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford dugout in the coming weeks after the Dutchman was dismissed.
Amorim is expected to cost the 20-time English champions a reported £8.3 million release clause to Sporting CP to secure his services. While the figure is not expected to be a tipping point for the English giants, the compensation owed this predecessor and members of his staff could present a problem.
The Red Devils announced a loss of £257.4 million over the last three seasons. While they expect to remain onside of regulations despite the new wave of expenditure for the new managerial appointment, the expenses incurred will push them closer to running foul of regulators.
Manchester United will next face Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday, November 3, and will likely be led out by assistant manager and former striker Ruud van Nistlerooy.
Ruben Amorim's appointment is yet to be completed but is expected to be finalized in the coming days.
