Manchester United complete deal to appoint Ruben Amorim as manager, start date confirmed: Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United have reportedly completed the signing of Ruben Amorim as their first-team head coach. The Portuguese tactician has been heavily linked with the Red Devils after they sacked former manager Erik Ten Hag on October 28.

Ten Hag's final game for Manchester United was a 2-1 loss to West Ham United in the Premier League on October 27. The loss at the London Stadium left the English outfit grovelling at #14 on the table with just 11 points in nine games.

According to a report by acclaimed transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Ruben Amorim's signing has already been completed by Manchester United. He will start his new chapter after the upcoming international break with the contract reported to run until 2027. Therefore, Amorim could reportedly take charge in the Premier League clash against Ipswich Town on November 24.

The report also states that Sporting CP will receive €10 million as a release clause along with €1 million for staff or a 30-day notice period.

Ruben Amorin joined Sporting CP from Braga in March 2020. The Portuguese manager helped the club win the Primeira Liga after 19 years in his first full season. In his four-year tenure, he has won two Primeira Ligas, two Portuguese League Cups, and a Portuguese Super Cup.

Former Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo had an interesting name for Ruben Amorim during their playing days for the Portugal national team. According to journalist Marcus Alves, Amorim had a way with words, leading to Cristiano Ronaldo conferring him the title of 'poet.'

In an interview with BBC Sport, Alves revealed:

"On the pitch, he has always delivered. Not even the constant sales in the transfer market have proved to be a problem for him."

He continued:

"Under Amorim, no player is irreplaceable and more important than the club. The Manchester United job may look like an impossible one right now, but so did Sporting’s when Amorim was unveiled as their head coach on March 5 2020.
"Eloquent and outgoing, Amorim is irresistible and dominates the words in such a way that Cristiano Ronaldo used to call him 'poet' in the national team," revealed the journalist.

As a player, Amorim and Ronaldo shared the pitch eight times for Portugal. The Portuguese tactician also played for A Selecao in the 2010 and 2014 World Cups.
